Recycling Campaigns

My education at the University of Minnesota coupled with my experience in the world make it difficult for me to not include sustainability in every role I operate in; whether that be sustainability focused role or not.

In both my positions at local breweries, I re-energized their prospective waste management programs to cut down on waste. In addition to advocating for a full switch to compostable plasticware, I used the following strategies to improve recycling operations:

1. Improved Infrastructure: I implemented clear signage and optimized waste containers, making it easier for everyone to sort their waste properly.

2. Educational Initiatives: Providing information on proper waste sorting was crucial. I created materials and mini-workshops that informed staff about the importance of recycling and how to do it correctly.

3. Staff Engagement: Engaging and involving the staff in these initiatives was vital for success. Generating buy-in from the team ensured that everyone was on board and committed to the new recycling practices.

4. Visual Communication: Eye-catching graphics made the recycling guidelines more visually appealing and easier to remember for everyone.

These efforts resulted in a more efficient waste management system. The combination of clear communication, education, staff involvement, and visually appealing materials created a successful overhaul of the recycling programs at these businesses.
