Marketing Campaign & Event Management: Art-A-Whirl

Every third weekend of May, thousands of individuals from all across the country flock to Northeast Minneapolis for the world’s largest open studio tour. It’s a magical weekend, kicking off the first pleasant weeks of spring.

Art-A-Whirl is focused around the studios in the area— old machine shops that have since transitioned to artist lofts. Besides being an arts hub, NE Minneapolis is home to the microbrewery boom. The breweries get in on the festive action; hosting events that foster community & uplift the surrounding artist community.

In 2023, I was the primary organizer for Art-A-Whirl festivities centering at Sociable Cider Werks. Serving as the events manager, operations manager, and interim marketing manager, I organized the weekend’s events (working with diverse groups of stakeholders in the process), generated assets for marketing, and gathered content for future promotion over the course of the weekend.

Sitting in various roles while planning one of the largest events of the year was a challenge, but a challenge I was more than up for and excited to tackle. I enjoyed communicating with various vendor groups. organizing programming, generating content to be utilized on various social channels, and creating a full campaign that serves as the template for future events.

As with any event; there were a few situations that did not go as planned. With the help of my team; we reacted quickly and efficiently to quickly resolve potential hiccups and improve the overall event.

The event itself was a success; the energy was tangible all weekend. Art-A-Whirl is about building community— and I believe we accomplished that at Sociable. Engagement on Instagram, Facebook, and Google increased 40% in the two weeks leading up to AAW and event attendance increased 126% from the previous year.
